BLUE HIGHWAY is an intimate, powerful story that can be well adapted to film, stage, or virtual reality. It is written and will be directed by David Marlett, and will be produced by Richard Middleton (The Artist, Hitchcock). RIDING HOME

A suspenseful, contemporary drama of a father trying to protect his unstable daughter who has fled a prison sentence for murder. As they are pursued through the wilderness, they are forced to question the things they are willing to die for. Ultimately it is a story of love and redemption, of sacrificial parenting and the unyielding powers that bind us.

In 2010, the RIDING HOME script had Tom Ortenberg (Spotlight, Crash, Girl with the Pearl Earring, etc.) attached as producer, had William H. Macy and others cast, and was financed ($3M) for production in Alberta. But when the writer/director, David Marlett, had a serious health scare with his son, the production was cancelled. Eventually, and luckily, all was well with the child. The script, now in turnaround, is ready to cast and shoot.

Enter the deadly world of the sport of kings. For the first time, this extraordinary, adrenalin-pumping sport comes alive through the story of the West Texas rodeo champion who took the international polo world by storm. This is a powerful story of the players, the horses, and the relationships that grow, are tested, and sometimes are destroyed...on and off the field.

The below short film (financing trailer) was made to support funding efforts. It depicts a feel for the story, but is not representative of the film itself. Its primary purpose was to share with potential investors in other countries a sense for the film.

Written by ex-polo player, David Marlett and garnering the support of the polo community, Of Kings & Cowboys was promoted and partial international financing was raised during 2008 and 2009. Though the economic collapse ended that round, it is prime for restarting now with even better results likely.
